The upgraded Builder now has full support for all eRoom objects types (folders, files, databases, inboxes, polls, discussions, project schedules, mail, links...).  Can be integrated with any search engine, the Raritan solution supports the eRoom security model which can different than the traditional CMS. Unlike other build products available from other vendors, this solution indexes content of all eRoom objects and not just the files within an eRoom folder and secures them according to the eRoom security model.

Apr 15, 2005   -  Raritan announces the availability of an eRoom collection builder

Documentum's eRoom tool is being used by many companies as a collaboration tool to store documents and other types of information in various forms. Search capabilities within eRoom are limited and custom integrations are not possible within the eRoom environment. The Raritan Technologies collection builder will allow documents in an eRoom to be indexed and stored in your collection of your choice (e.g. Verity, Autonomy, FAST Search, Ultraseek, Dieselpoint, Lucene, or others). Once in a collection, any advanced search capabilities of enterprise search engines or can be used to search the eRoom data.   More important, eRoom content can be searched simultaneously with other content, enhancing efficiencies and reducing the number of searches that have to be done to find what you are looking for.

The Problem:
The search capabilities of eRooms are limited. There is no support for taxonomies, classification, more like this or other advanced search capabilities that are available using most commercial search engines.  In addition, there is no way to combine the contents of your eRooms with your other content, both from internal as well as the external sources of information.  The Raritan eRoom Builder, in conjunction with an enterprise search engine allows you to search your content from a single integrated application.

Solution:
Provide a collection build process that will index all diverse content that can be stored in eRooms. Integrate this process with Enterprise search engines to allow advanced search capabilities to be used. Fully support the eRoom security model to prevent unauthorized access of data.

Benefits:
Developed by Raritan Technologies, the collection build process allows a much richer search capability than what is available in eRoom. This process can be integrated with any search engine and content can be seamlessly merged with other corporate resources to provide a single point of access for your search needs.

The collection builder uses Documentum eRooms SOAP facility to extract both content and security information for all content in an eRoom.  It is also XML configurable so that it can be scaled up for high volume repositories and can process efficiently across multiple machines and processors.

Conclusion:
In a implementation done at one of Raritan's clients, eRoom data was merged with content from other internal and external sources.  The client was able to search all content from a single entry point, rather than from several sources. Users were able to search eRooms without going into the eRoom search facility and the search returned content that they were authorized to see.  These users were able to cut the number of systems that they needed to access and were thrilled that all of the relevant content could be merged and presented with the advanced features built into their search engine.
